A seminar titled 'Development of the Southern Region: Possibilities and \r\nChallenges' organized by the Khulna Regional Information\r\n Office was held at the\r\n Deputy Commissioner's Conference Room on Sunday afternoon.\r\n Khulna Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain was the chief guest\r\n at the seminar.<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n

The chief guest in his speech said that the development activities \r\nof Khulna are going on in the same way in Corona. \r\nOnce the Padma Bridge is completed, \r\nwe have to prepare for the tide that will be generated in the development\r\n of the southern region. Two separate economic zones\r\n at Rupsha and Batiaghata in Khulna have already been \r\napproved by the Bangladesh\r\n Economic Zone Authority for development in the south.<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n

If implemented, it will create employment for many people in the area. \r\n\r\nWork is underway to set up IT Park and Sheikh Kamal \r\nIncubation Center in Khulna\r\n to create skilled manpower in the technology sector. \r\nThe Deputy Commissioner mentioned the huge potential of ecotourism \r\ncentered on the Sundarbans, Rupsha-Bhairab river and coastal areas through \r\nintegrated initiatives. He also emphasized the need for sustainable \r\nprojects in coastal areas to deal with natural disasters \r\ncaused by climate change.<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n

During the open discussion at the seminar, the guests mentioned \r\nvarious possibilities and challenges of development in the southern part \r\nof the country and said that being a coastal area, the people of this region\r\n have to constantly fight against natural disasters. They called for \r\nthe construction of sustainable embankments to improve the living \r\nstandards of the coastal people. They asked to consider environmental\r\n adaptation in the development plan. At the same time, \r\nthe journalists demanded to ensure free flow of information \r\nin the development news.<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n

Khulna Press Club President SM Zahid Hossain and Khulna Journalists Union\r\n President Munshi Md Mahbub Alam Sohag were special guests \r\nat the seminar presided\r\n over by Khulna Regional Information Office Deputy Chief Information Officer\r\n Jinat Ara Ahmed. Md. Atiqur Rahman Mufti, Assistant Information Officer, \r\nKhulna Regional Information Office presented the essay and Md. Moinuddin,\r\n Information Officer conducted the program.<\/span><\/pre>\n<\/div>\n
