In Satkhira’s Tala Upazila, a newly-married madrasa student named Tamanna Khatun (18) was stabbed to death by pouring petrol on her body.<\/p>\n

The incident took place at Kashipur village of the upazila around 8 pm on Thursday when she was walking with her husband Farhad Hossain (25) on the bank of Kopotaksh river. The student is now undergoing treatment in critical condition. They got married two months ago. According to Tamanna’s brother, college student Naimur Rahman, his sister was married to Farhad Hossain of Ghoshpara in old Satkhira. On Wednesday, the day after Eid, Tamanna came with her husband to visit her father’s house. On Thursday evening go for a walk along the Kopotaksh river next to the house. At around 8 pm, someone suddenly came and grabbed Tamanna and grabbed her by the face. Then some people pushed petrol on his body and set it on fire. At that time her husband Farhad came and jumped into the river Kopotaksh with Tamanna. Hearing the screams, the people of the area came and rescued them and took them to Khulna Hospital. Tamanna’s condition is critical and she has been sent to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute in Dhaka.<\/p>\n

Tamanna’s brother also said that his sister had a love affair with a Malaysian boy named Saddam Hussein of Kalaroa municipality. But her parents married Tamanna two months ago as she did not return to the country for the last two and a half years. In the meantime, Saddam has returned to the country. Besides, Tamannad has a land dispute with a neighbor named Abdur Rauf. The two sides may have conspired to kill her sister and brother-in-law.<\/p>\n

About 42 percent of Tamanna’s body was burnt. He is currently being kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital. Besides, Tamanna’s husband’s right hand was burnt. He is now undergoing treatment in Khulna.<\/p>\n

Tamanna’s father Abdul Haque filed a case at Patkelghata police station in Tala upazila on Friday afternoon naming six persons. The names mentioned are Saddam Hussein, a Malaysian expatriate, and Firoz, Abdul Hamid, Salauddin, Raju Ahmed and Tuhin, sons of neighboring Rauf. They have been on the run since the incident.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station Kanchan Kumar Roy said,<\/p>\n
