Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram K. Doraiswami today inaugurated a number of development projects, funded by the Indian government, in Sylhet.<\/p>\n

On arrival, the Indian envoy inaugurated a five-storied women’s hostel on the premises of Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas at Chalibandar in Sylhet which was constructed with a financial assistance of Taka 4.35 crore from the Indian government, said a press release, issued by the Indian High Commission here.<\/p>\n

The hostel, which will be run on a not-for-profit basis by the Umesh Chandra-Nirmalabala Chhatrabas Trust, can accommodate 160 women students, it added.<\/p>\n

Later, Doraiswami along with foreign minister Dr AK Abdul Momen, LGRD and Cooperatives minister Md. Tazul Islam and Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury inaugurated three other development projects.<\/p>\n

The projects are, Development of Dhupadighipar area, Construction of Cleaners Colony building at Kastoghar and Construction of a School building at Chara Dighi Par in Sylhet.<\/p>\n

These projects have been funded by India government and implemented by the Sylhet City Corporation as part of an MOU signed in 2017 for “Construction of Infrastructure for Education and better Environment of Sylhet City Corporation” between the Indian High Commission, Bangladesh’s Economic Relations Department and the Sylhet City Corporation.<\/p>\n

All the three projects are focused towards improving the lives of the local community and are part of many such projects being implemented under development assistance across Bangladesh with funding from the Indian government, Indian high commission here said.<\/p>\n
