Attempted suicide with a knife in front of a judge in court

A young man has tried to commit suicide by stabbing himself in the throat after entering a court in Chittagong. However, the people present, including the police, stopped him. Police later arrested him.

The incident took place in the court of Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman around 12 noon on Monday, police said.

Detained Mohammad Zafar (30) is the son of Abdur Razzak of Tong Fakir Mazar area in West Madarbari area under Double Mooring Police Station.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC-Prosecution) of the city police Kamrul Islam said Zafar was addicted to drugs and was involved in petty robberies. He was granted bail by Metropolitan Magistrate Mehnaz Rahman a month ago after his arrest in one such case. From then on, Jafar used to roam the court area regularly. Sometimes he would sit in that court.

The court proceedings were going on on Monday. Suddenly, Zafar entered the courtroom and started shouting. He told the magistrate that if he did not listen to her, he would stab her in the throat and commit suicide. At this time he took a knife out of his pocket and put it around his neck. However, as the knife was dull, there were no serious injuries, only scratches. Then the police personnel detained him with the help of the people present in the court room.

“We interrogated him after his arrest,” he said. It seems that he has mental problems due to drug use. Speaking incoherently.

The court’s clerk is preparing to file a case with the city’s Kotwali police station. After filing the case, Zafar will be handed over to Kotwali police station, said ADC Kamrul Islam.
