Hamas proposes a new ceasefire between Israel and Palestine

// Daily World News, International Desk //

The intermediaries of Qatar and Egypt have proposed a new ceasefire to end the war in the Gaza Valley. A senior Palestinian official associated with the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas told the BBC.

According to the officer, a ceasefire that will last five to seven years is being considered. The proposal called for the release of all Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinians imprisoned in Israeli prisons, the formal end of the war and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza.

A delegation from Hamas’s senior leaders is expected to visit Cairo for discussion.

The last ceasefire was broken after Israel started a new bombing in Gaza a month ago. Hamas and Israel have blamed each other for the ceasefire.

Israel has not yet commented on the media’s plan for the new ceasefire.

Hamas delegation will lead the organization’s political council chief Mohammad Darbish and its chief negotiator Khalil Al Haya in Cairo’s discussion.

A few days after Hamas rejected the latest Israeli proposal, such an initiative was taken. The Israeli proposal demanded Hamas to disarm in exchange for a six -week ceasefire.

Last Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the war would not end before the destruction of Hamas and the back of the hostages. Hamas has claimed that the Israeli government promised to stop the war before the hostages were released.

Hamas has been in the rule of Gaza for 25 years. The Palestinian official associated with the discussion has told the BBC that Hamas has hinted at the transfer of Gaza to any Palestinian authority approved at the national and regional level. It can be the West Bank -based Palestinian authority (PA) or the newly formed administrative organization.

However, Netanyahu has dismissed Gaza’s involvement in the future regime of Gaza.

It is not yet time to determine the success of the discussion. The source, however, described the current mediation effort as important and says Hamas has shown ‘unprecedented flexibility’.

Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, 2021. About 1,220 people were killed. Twenty -two people were taken hostage and taken to Gaza. In response, Israel launched an attack on the Gaza Valley from the same day. According to the Gaza Health Ministry estimates, as many as 5,220 Palestinians have been killed in the attack. Most of them are civilians.
