A patient was injured when plaster fell on the roof of Betagi Upazila Health Complex in Barguna. At this time other patients have been saved from major accidents. The injured patient’s name is Abdus Salam (60). He has been receiving treatment at the hospital for two weeks for respiratory problems.
The accident took place at 10 pm on Wednesday (April 13) in the men’s ward on the second floor of the hospital. At that time, hearing the screams of the patients in that room, panic spread among other patients and common people in the area. Authorities declared the old hospital building abandoned.
Rabindranath Sarkar, Resident Medical Officer of Betagi Upazila Health Complex, who was in charge of the hospital at the time, said, “We have survived a great danger.” Luckily no one was in a position to let the plaster fall off the roof. Some plaster has fallen on one of them. Nothing serious happened. He is being treated in another room of the hospital. This hospital building is very old. The process of demolishing it and constructing a new building was already underway. Hopefully, tenders will be called for demolition of the building within a few days.
