Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her government is implementing a “Delta Plan” to ensure a better life for future generations. In this case, the cooperation or participation of friendly countries and development partners in exchange of knowledge, technology and experience, starting from financing, is absolutely necessary.

Calling for cooperation in the implementation of the Delta Plan, he said, “We are moving forward with a far-reaching plan to secure Bangladesh.” So that future generations can live beautifully. And we are taking action that way.

The Prime Minister was virtually present at the inaugural function of the two-day conference titled ‘Bangladesh Delta Plan-2100 International Conference: Problems and Challenges of Implementation’ at a hotel in the capital on Thursday. He said that despite Bangladesh having no role in climate change, it is one of the countries most affected by the effects of climate change. Bangladesh is a delta island. There are 600 rivers and vast lowlands and wetlands. He said that for this reason Bangladesh has to be built in such a way that future generations can live well. And we are taking action that way.

Sheikh Hasina said the Bangladesh Delta Plan is an information technology and knowledge based techno-economic master plan. Its phased implementation will require about 2.5 percent of GDP by 2025. As a result, spontaneous participation and cooperation of public-private level at home and abroad is essential in every field of exchange of knowledge, technology and experience, starting from financing. He called upon various friendly countries and development partners to come forward for this. Sheikh Hasina thanked the leaders of the Netherlands for being the first to come forward in this regard and mentioned the signing of a memorandum of understanding in this regard.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government is adopting and implementing some short-term, medium-term and long-term plans with climate change in mind. “We are moving forward with a far-reaching plan so that we can secure Bangladesh,” he said.

Not only for today, but also for the next generation to make Bangladesh sustainable, improve its economic condition and achieve economic prosperity. He further said that after independence, the Father of the Nation had taken various steps for the betterment of the people of the country through proper management of the resources of the delta.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that due to its geographical location, Bangladesh has to face constant challenges like floods, droughts, tidal surges, cyclones, river erosion, salinity, landslides etc. That is why we have adopted the Delta Plan. In addition to protecting the people of the country from the effects of climate change, we are also taking steps to meet their basic needs, including food, clothing, shelter, education and medical care.

He said that besides food security, provision of potable drinking water and ensuring food nutrition is essential. We are doing research keeping in mind that even if the population increases day by day, the geographical boundaries will not increase. He also mentioned that the improvement in health care and sanitation system has been included in the steps taken by his government.

The people of Bangladesh will not be left behind. Mentioning that the government is implementing a number of programs of the ‘Delta Plan-2100’ plan, he said that the way to implement it would be easier in the light of detailed discussions on the Delta Plan.
