Inauguration of Padma Multipurpose Bridge in Bangladesh on 25 June

The much awaited Padma Bridge will be opened for traffic on June 25. On the same day, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the Padma Multipurpose Bridge at 10 am.
Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters in front of Ganobhaban on Tuesday.
Earlier, Obaidul Quader went to Ganobhaban on Tuesday afternoon to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to discuss the inauguration and naming of the Padma Bridge. After waiting for the journalists to come out of Ganobhaban, the bridge minister announced the date of inauguration of Padma Bridge.
At that time, Obaidul Quader said, “The much awaited Padma Bridge – everyone is interested to know when it will be inaugurated. I am giving you that good news. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, will announce the inauguration of Padma Bridge on June 25 (Saturday) at 10 am.
He said, “We have given two summaries of the Padma Bridge to the Prime Minister. A summary of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge, signed by him on 25 June. Another was to name the Padma Bridge ‘Sheikh Hasina Bridge’. He did not sign it. He (Prime Minister) said, “The Padma Bridge will be named after the river Padma. I will not give it to anyone else. It will not be in the name of anyone in the Bangabandhu family. ”
Asked by reporters who will be invited to the inauguration of the bridge, Obaidul Quader said, “Everyone will be invited, those who are against it more – they will be invited first.”
Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the 6.15 km long bridge on the banks of the river Padma at her own expense at a cost of Tk 30,000 crore in December 2015.
Meanwhile, the government has fixed the toll for crossing the Padma Bridge. According to a circular signed by Abul Hasan, deputy secretary of the bridge department on May 18, the toll rate for motorcycles is 100 rupees; Car, jeep 750 rupees; Pickup van 1 thousand 200 rupees; Microbus 1,300 rupees; Small bus (31 seats or less) 1,400 rupees; Medium bus (32 seats or more) 2 thousand rupees; Big bus (3 axle) has been fixed at 2,400 rupees.
1,600 for small trucks (up to 5 tons); Medium truck (5 to 6 tons) 2,100 rupees; Medium truck (8 to 11 tons) 2,600 rupees; Large truck (up to 3 axles) 5,500 rupees; Trailer (up to 4 axles) will be paid Rs.
The Padma Bridge became visible on September 30, 2016 with the installation of the first span on poles 37 and 38. After that, by placing 41 spans of 150 meters length on 42 pillars one by one, the 6.15 km long Padma bridge became fully visible on December 10, 2020.
