Lightning strikes bridegroom boat in Chapainawabganj: Death 17
Deaths due to lightning are not decreasing. At least 17 people have been died in a lightning strike on a boat carrying brides in the Padma River in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj. A few more have been burnt.
Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shakib-al-Rabbi said the incident took place around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.
It is learned that a boat carrying the bride and groom left Chapainawabganj for Shibganj in the morning. When the boat reached near Shibganj around 12:30 pm, lightning struck. The boat was damaged and 17 people were killed. Several people were injured. They were rescued and admitted to the Upazila Health Complex.
Instantly names not known all causalities. The exact number of injured people was not known. Fifteen of the dead were residents of Narayanpur area of Chapainawabganj Sadar. Five of them are women. The death toll is expected to rise.
When this news spread, the shadow of mourning fell on the area.
