1 Detention while extorting money in the dark of night on the Meghna river in Chandpur

Rashed Chowkidar (22) was arrested by the Alur Bazar Naval Police while he was extorting money from the Meghna River in the dark at night in the Alur Bazar area of Ibrahimpur Union No. 11 of Chandpur Sadar Upazila.
It is learned that various types of vessels plying on the Meghna River from Barisal, Pirojpur and other parts of the country bound for Dhaka from the southern part of the potato market area of the Meghna tributary rest at night. At this time local extortionists have been bringing in extortion for a long time. Md. Ujjal, Sukani of Bolgate, a freighter on the river, verbally complained about the extortion at the potato market outpost. Later, under the supervision of Sub-Inspector Zahirul Haque, led by Officer-in-Charge Jem M Sirajul Kabir, he stayed at Bolgate for two nights and was able to catch the extortionist Rashed. Besides, other members of the extortionist group escaped.
He was arrested in Hatena during extortion at 12 midnight on Sunday, March 20. The next day, on Monday, Md. Ujjwal became a plaintiff and 5 people were accused and a case was filed against 2/3 of them in the Penal Court by 385/386/34. The accused in the case number 58, 21/03/2021 are Rashed Chowkidar (22), Suruj Bakaul (40), Faruk Mizhi (39), Saddam Mizhi (26), Md. Billal Khan, each of whom lives in Ibrahimpur Union of Sadar Upazila.
In this regard, Sub-Inspector of Alur Bazar Naval Police Outpost Zahirul Haque said that as per the instructions of Additional IGP, the naval police is always on patrol and providing security to the passengers and cargo vessels. We will bring the other accused and unknown accused of extortion under the law and our activities will continue.
