Stop war and deliver food to all: PM Sheikh Hasina to world leaders
//Online Desk//
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina called on world leaders to stop war and provide food to all.
He said more than 800 million people around the world go to bed hungry, a situation made worse by the Russia-Ukraine war.
He said this while presenting the keynote address at the opening session of the World Food Forum 2022 at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy on Sunday. He joined the session virtually from Ganobhaban.
The Prime Minister said, “I request the international community to stop fighting, stop politics over food and stop wasting food.” Instead, ensure food supply to food-scarce and famine-prone areas. As humans we must believe that everyone has the right to live on food and live a good life.’
Sheikh Hasina said, “If a fraction of the money invested in the manufacture of weapons is spent on food production and distribution, no one will be hungry in this world.”
The Prime Minister mentioned that more than 80 crore people or 10 percent of the world’s population go to bed hungry all the time. The situation has now worsened with the Ukraine war, subsequent embargoes, counter-embargoes, which have disrupted global food supplies and driven up food prices.
He said, in real sense, there is no shortage of food on our planet. Scarcity is man-made.
