Who and how is the next British Prime Minister going to be?
//International Online Desk//
Who is the next British Prime Minister? It is now a hot topic of discussion around the world, including Britain.
So far, the race to become British prime minister has featured two main contenders – former prime minister Boris Johnson, who resigned just three months ago, and former chancellor Rishi Sunak. But apart from these two, the name of Penny Mordante is also being heard.
Prime Minister Liz Truss was forced to resign on October 20 after just 45 days. Since then there has been speculation as to who will be the next British Prime Minister.
So, how is the British Prime Minister elected?
Initially interested candidates need the support of at least 100 party (Conservative) MPs. By Monday noon, the interested candidate will have to show the support of at least 100 party MPs.
If only one candidate is able to secure the support of 100 MPs then he will be the party leader and the next Prime Minister. In that case, MPs and party members will no longer need to vote.
If more than two candidates succeed in securing the support of 100 MPs, the party (Conservative) MPs will remove the candidate with the lowest number of votes by ballot.
After the number of candidates is reduced to two, the MPs will again choose their choice. Party members will then vote online.
The one who wins by counting everyone’s votes will be the party leader and the next prime minister.
It is said that the new British Prime Minister may be announced by next Friday.
