45 bags of human remains have been found in a canyon in the western state of Jalisco, Mexico. Authorities in the country said Thursday that the bags were found during a search for seven people who went missing last week.
A statement from the Office of the Public Prosecutor of Mexico said, “Human remains were found in 45 bags. There are remains of men and women.’
Bags full of human remains were recovered from the bottom of a 40-meter (120-foot) deep canyon in Zapopan, a suburb of the industrial center of Guadalajara, on Tuesday.
Authorities recently launched a search operation to trace seven missing persons, including two women. They have been missing since May 20. All of them are around 30 years old.
After the disappearance, the information of all those persons was reported to the authorities on separate days. But investigators say they all worked in the same call center.
The call center is located in the same area where the remains were recovered.
Forensic experts will now work to identify the number of people killed and their identities.
Based on initial investigation, it is believed that the call center was involved in illegal activities.
Relatives of the missing say the authorities are trying to frame the victims as criminals.
In recent years, human remains have been found in bags or in makeshift graves in various parts of Jalisco.
In 2021, the remains of 11 people were recovered from 70 bags in the municipality of Tonala, Jalisco.
In 2019, the remains of 29 people were recovered from 119 bags in Japopan area.
