Millions of Gmails may be closed – how to keep yours active….

//Daily World Desk//

Google has announced that millions of unused Gmails will be deleted from next month. Accounts that have been dormant for two years will be covered. This information is known in the report of the technical website Android Authority.

Ruth Crutchley, Google’s vice president of product management, said in a blog post that the move is part of ensuring account security. Accounts that have not been used for a long time are prone to security breaches. Because forgotten or unused accounts often have old or reused passwords associated with them.

These accounts do not have two-factor authentication setup and customers do not verify account security. This means that the security of these accounts is often weak. And these can be used for various harmful activities like identity theft along with scams.

Accounts that have been unused for two years will be deleted from December. Along with that, Google Workspace content such as Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar and Google Photos will also be deleted.

The policy will be effective only for personal Google Accounts. That will not be the case for school or business accounts.

The process of account deletion will be completed in stages. First, accounts that are no longer used after creation will be deleted. Many notifications will be sent to the email address of these account users.

To keep the account active:-

The easiest way to keep your account active is to sign in at least once every two years. Google accounts are considered active if they are signed in. Apart from this, the following steps can be taken to stop account deletion after sign-in:

  1. Read or send an email.
  2. Using Google Drive.
  3. Watch YouTube videos with that account.
  4. Downloading an app from the Google Play Store.
  5. Using Google Search
  6. Signing in to third-party apps or services using Google Sign-in.

Apart from this, the account which has purchased Google subscription, will be considered as active by this platform.]
