Argentina decided not to join BRICS

The last BRICS summit was held in Johannesburg, South Africa last year. It was decided there, the alliance would be expanded. According to the decision, Argentina, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were supposed to join the alliance in January this year. However, in the light of that decision, Argentina decided not to join the alliance. However, the remaining five countries have formally joined the alliance.
The current president of the BRICS alliance, South Africa’s foreign minister, Naledi Pandor, said on Wednesday that Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have officially joined as members of the alliance.
BRICS already had five member countries—Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. This time Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates joined the alliance, bringing the number of members to 10.
Naledi Pandor also said Argentina has said it will not implement the previous administration’s decision to become a full member of BRICS. We accept their decision.
Earlier last November, Diana Mondino, one of the senior economic advisers of Argentine President Javier Millei, said in an interview given to the Russian media Sputnik, that we have no plans for Argentina to join the BRICS on January 1.
