European Union (EU) leaders have agreed to cut oil imports from Russia by two-thirds. As a result, oil imports from Russia by sea to Europe will be stopped.

Two-thirds of the oil that European countries import from Russia comes by sea. But bringing oil through the pipeline is not stopping at the moment. News from the BBC.

The sanctions on Russia are part of a series of agreements reached between European countries.

Because Hungary has opposed it. They do not agree to stop importing oil from Russia into the pipeline. Hungary imports 75 percent of its oil from Russia through the pipeline.

The head of the European Council, Charles Mitchell, said the deal would cut off major sources of funding for Russia’s war.

The European Union has imposed sanctions on Russia for the sixth time.

The meeting, held in Brussels, was attended by all 27 countries of the European Union.

The European Commission first proposed a halt to oil imports from Russia.

One month ago, the commission also drafted a law for its member countries. But the biggest opposition came from Hungary.

In addition, countries that do not have seaports, such as Slovakia and the Czech Republic, also wanted time to reduce their dependence on Russian oil.

Russia, on the other hand, has cut off gas supplies to Bulgaria.

European countries have moved away from imposing a full embargo on Russian oil, despite fears that the economy could be hurt.
